Puff baby bib

In the past I have already published a number of projects that I made with this nice puff stitch (here the pattern of the sundress and the shawl / shrug) and now another one is added

Inspired by the bib made by mum (pattern here) I created this new model, it’s always a whole piece and there are two versions: one made with the Anchor Freccia n.8 and one with the Anchor Baby Pure Cotton, a natural cotton yarn for babies, hypoallergenic and saliva resistant, therefore perfect for a bib.

Materials and dimensions

This bib can be made with different yarns, the yarns I used are the following:
~ Anchor Baby Pure Cotton and 2 mm crochet hook
Or
~ Anchor Freccia n. 8 and 1.75 mm/ US 6 crochet hook

The final dimensions of the bib depend on the length of the chosen yarn:

Instructions  

Row 1: start the work with the white yarn and chain 41, 2 dc in the fifth chain from hook, ( skip one chain, 3 dc in next chain ) repeat 9 times, 1 dc in next chain, ( 2 dc in next chain, skip one chain) repeat 9 times, 2 dc in next chain, 1 dc in the last chain, fasten off ( fig. 1-2);  ( 61 stitches )

Row 2: chain 3, 1 dc in all next 60 stitches, turn the work ( fig. 3);  (61 stitches )

Row 3: 1 slst in all next 4 stitches ( fig. 5-6),  chain 3, 1 dc in all next 54 stitches, don’t work the last 3 free stitches and turn the work;  (55 stitches )

2 hdc ch1 cluster: yarn over ( fig. 10 ), insert the hook in the stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop ( fig. 11 ), yarn over ( fig. 12 ), insert again the hook in the same stitch and pull up a loop ( fig. 13 ), yarn over and draw through 4 loops on hook ( fig. 14 ), yarn over and draw through all 2 loops on hook ( fig. 15 ).

Row 4: 1 slst in next 4 stitches, chain 3, 1 dc in next 7 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 7 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 5 stitches, skip 2 stitches, in the following stitch ( yellow pin fig. 10 ) work * 2 hdc ch 1 cluster, chain 1, 2 hdc ch 1 cluster, chain 1, 2 hdc ch 1 cluster* , skip 2 stitches and in the following stitch dc 1, 1 dc in next 4 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 7 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 8 stitches, don’t work the last 3 free stitches and turn the work;  (53 stitches )

Row 5: 1 slst in next 4 stitches, chain 3, 1 dc in next 21 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next stitch ( fig. 19), 1 dc in next 22 stitches, don’t work the last 3 free stitches and turn the work;  (49 stitches ) 

Row 6: 1 slst in next 4 stitches, chain 3, 1 dc in next 8 stitches , 2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 3 stitches, skip 2 stitches and in the following stitch work * 2 hdc ch 1 cluster, chain 1, 2 hdc ch 1 cluster, chain 1, 2 hdc ch 1 cluster *, skip 2 stitches and in the following stitch dc 1 (fig. 20), 1 dc in next 2 stitches, 3 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 3 stitches (fig.21), skip 2 stitches and in the following stitch work * 2 hdc ch 1 cluster, chain 1, 2 hdc ch 1 cluster, chain 1, 2 hdc ch 1 cluster *, skip 2 stitches and in the following stitch dc 1, 1 dc in next 2 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 9 stitches, ( fig. 23), don’t work the last 3 free stitches and turn the work; (47 stitches ) 

 Row 7: 1 slst in next 4 stitches, chain 3, 1 dc in next 12 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 13 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 13 stitches, don’t work the last 3 free stitches and turn the work;  (43 stitches ) 

Row 8: 1 slst in next 4 stitches, chain 3, 1 dc in next 12 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 3 stitches, skip 2 stitches and in the following stitch work * 2 hdc ch 1 cluster, chain 1, 2 hdc ch 1 cluster, chain 1, 2 hdc ch 1 cluster*, skip 2 stitches and in the following stitch dc 1,  1 dc in next 2 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 13 stitches, don’t work in teh last 3 free stitches and turn the work;  (39 stitches )

Row 9: 1 slst in next 3 stitches, chain 3, 1 dc in next 7 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 8 stitches, 3 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 8 stitches, 2 dc  in next stitch, 1 dc in next 8 stitches, don’t work the last 2 free stitches and turn the work (fig. 24 );  (39 stitches )

 Row 10: 1 slst in next 4 stitches, chain 3, 1 dc in next 32 stitches, don’t work the last 3 free stitches and turn the work (fig. 25 );  (33 stitches ) 

Row 11: 1 slst in next 4 stitches, chain 3, 1 dc in next 12 stitches, 3 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 13 stitches, don’t work the last 3 free stitches and turn the work (fig. 26 );  ( 29 stitches )

Row 12: 1 slst in next 4 stitches, chain 3, 1 dc in next 22 stitches, don’t work the last 3 free stitches and turn the work (fig. 27 );  (23 stitches )

Round 13: 1 slst in next 4 stitches, chain 3, 1 dc in next 18 stitches (fig. 28 ), 2 dc in the space between the last two stitches indicated by the first yellow pin of fig. 29, at this point continue on the side of the bib working the finishing edge  in this way: 1 dc in the stitch where there is the last dc of the upper row ( second yellow pin fig. 29 ), ( 1 dc in next 2 stitches (red pins fig. 31 ), 2 dc in the space between the last two stitches (first yellow pin fig. 31 ), move on the lower row and 1 dc in the stitch where there is the last dc of the upper row (second yellow pin fig. 31 )) repeat 3 times,  1 dc in next stitch, 2 dc in the space between the last two stitches, move on the lower row and 1 dc in the stitch where there is already the last dc of the upper row, ( 1 dc in next 2 stitches, 2 dc in the space between the last two stitches, move on the lower row and 1 dc in the stitch where there is already the last dc of the upper row ) repeat 5 times, 1 hdc in next stitch ( first yellow pin fig. 34 ), skip one stitch (red pin fig. 34 ), move on the upper side of the bib and 3 sc in the first row end ( i.e. row end is the space between the first two stitches) ( fig. 35 ),

4 sc in next row end (fig. 37 ), continue working in the free loops of the foundation chains, ( 1 sc in next chain, 1 sc in the space under the next chain ( in this chain there aren’t worked any stitches yet ) repeat 9 times (fig. 40 ), 1 sc in next 3 chains, ( 1 sc in next chain, 1 sc in the space under the next chain ( in this chain there aren’t worked any stitches yet ) repeat 9 times (fig. 41 ), move on the upper side of the bib, 4 sc in first row end (fig. 43 ),

3 sc in next row end and continue on the left side, skip next stitch (red pin fig. 44, i.e. it’s the second stitch of row 2 ), 1 hdc in next stitch, ( 1 dc in the stitch where there is already the first dc of this row, move on the upper row, 2 dc in next row end ( i.e. the space between the first two stitches ), 1 dc in next 2 free stitches ) repeat 5 times, 1 dc in the stitch where there is already the first dc of this row, move on the upper row, 2 dc in next row end ( i.e. the space between the first two stitches ), 1 dc in next free stitch, ( 1 dc in the stitch where there is already the first dc of this row, move on the upper row, 2 dc in next row end ( i.e. the space between the first two stitches ), 1 dc in next 2 free stitches ) repeat 4 times (fig.48), close the round with 1 slst in the third initial chain (fig.49); 

Round 14: (skip one stitch and in the following stitch work * 2 hdc ch 1 cluster, chain 1, 2 hdc ch 1 cluster, chain 1, 2 hdc ch 1 cluster * , skip one stitch and 1 slst in the following stitch ) repeat 18 times, crochet the first strap of the bib, ( Anchor Freccia n.8) chain 71 / ( Anchor Baby Pure Cotton)  chain 61, 1  slst in the second chain from hook, 1 slst in all 69 / 59 next chains, fix the strap on the bib with 1 slst in the sc at the base of the strap, continue with 1 slst in all next 42 stitches (fig.59-60), crochet the second strap of the bib so chain 71 / chain 61, 1  slst in the second chain from hook, 1 slst in all 69 / 59 next chains, fix the strap on the bib with 1 slst in the sc at the base of the strap, (skip one stitch and in the following stitch work * 2 hdc ch 1 cluster, chain 1, 2 hdc ch 1 cluster, chain 1, 2 hdc ch 1 cluster * , skip one stitch and 1 slst in the following stitch ) repeat 13 times, skip one stitch and in the following stitch work * 2 hdc ch 1 cluster, chain 1, 2 hdc ch 1 cluster, chain 1, 2 hdc ch 1 cluster * , skip the last stitch and close the round with 1 slst in the first stitch ( yellow pin fig. 64), fasten off and cut the yarn.

Now you have completed the bib.
